About The Department

The Department of the Environment, within the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change is responsible for fostering the prudent use of proper management of the natural resources of Belize, the preservation, protection and improvement of the environment and the control of pollution, thus guaranteeing a better quality of life for present and future generations. Apart from its regulatory functions of administering the Environmental Protection Act, 1992 its Amendments and Substantive Regulations, the Department is responsible for the issuance of import and export permits and licenses. These licenses and permits include: License to Import Lead Acid Batteries, License to Import Ozone Depleting Substances, License to Import Used Tires, License to Export Scrap Metal, License to Export Waste Oil, License to import restricted products, License to Discharge Effluent, and Application to import ionizing radiation equipment.
